In OS 10.3 you can use tinkertool to change the default umask settings so that a saved or new file is say read write for everyone, but then it needs to be in a folder that is set to read and write access for all otherwise it would be useless. If you use OSX server then all should be a little easier as you set the access in the domain setup. As I understand it the permissions are taken from a umask which is set to a default of rw for owner, read for group and others, so basically when you create a file or folder it will have those permissions, so others will be able to open it but not save over it. Permissions is a bit of a pain in the butt. Is there any way to force the system to use Read/Write permissions when creating a new file no matter on which computer it is created instead of for the owner only? The constant permission changing on my side slows me and the other user down and is driving the other user nuts because they have to wait for me. The top level in my Shared folder has my account as the owner, staff as the group (which the Titanium user is part of) and the persmission for both and others is set to read/write. I have also tried Super Get Info and except for the G4 server side it has been no help. I have relaunched the finder, restarted Xpress and disconnected and reconnected to the G4 but this has not solved the problem. Batchmod works sporadically and never on the EPS files. I have been able to change permissions from the Titanium (client side) on a folder and apply those changes to all files inside, but this does not always work. I have tried to use the "Get Info" window to change permissions from the client side (the Titanium) but I have a grey out locked window and can only change it from the Sawtooth. This problem is intermittent on Xpress documents, but almost always occurs when writting a new EPS file from Xpress, either as a "Save page as EPS" command or with FontWizard (an XT we use to embed fonts).

Every file in these folders needs to have read and write permissions for both users no matter who creates a new file. Occaisonally a new file is written where the Titanium user receives Read only permissions. The person using the Titanum has an Admin account on the Titanium and the Sawtooth. I am using the Sawtooth to serve the Titanium with all of our Xpress documents in multiple folders inside the "Shared" used folder. Both the Sawtooth and Titanium are running Quark Xpress 6.5.
